I want it, " television clean in here!"

Have you ever said that? I have. In fact I say that to my husband at least once a week. I hate clutter. I hate things not having a "home." We were blessed to inherit a house, and it's been a long journey in making it our home. When you purchase a home, you get to start fresh. When you inherit a home, especially if the person is still living, you have to deal with dual-ownership. This isn't the first time for me though, so you'd think I'd be used to it. There's alwasy a question of, " why are you doing that?", "Isn't this thing more important", " when I was there..." Makes me question if this was such a good idea. Budget wise it was a great decision. With my husband being randomly diagnosed with Epilespy, shortly after the birth of our eldest, it was nice not to have to worry about a mortgage while spending days and nights in the hospital.
So here I am, trying to make a house into a home, while we're building a business, raising two young children, and managing a debiltating disorder. Though I don't have the colors I want just yet I think I've finally gotten our bedroom the way I want it to be. It's so comfortable, relaxing and inviting! Here are some of the steps I'm following as I get rid of junk ( that's mine and not) and get this house in tip top condition....
1. Breathe. Haha! yep. You may think it, but when you're finished you'll know that you just took on a HUGE task! Tread lightly.
2. Plan. You know the saying," without a plan the people perish." You absolutely must take the time to evaluate the situation and set goals and task of completion. Yep, it's tedious. But your back will thank you later.
3.Ask for help. Sometimes we get mad when help isn't offered. Don't be dumb. Ask for help. Whether it's the kids picking up their toys, making their own sandwiches or politely ( and gently) reminding hubby about taking out the trash. It doesn't hurt to ask. It does hurt not to.
4.Put your cellphone, tablet,e-reader, etc. on silent for the the duration of the task. Unless it's an emergency (we'll talk about that in a different post), you don't need to know what the rest of the world is doing. It's distracting and defeating. Don't do it!
5. Get started! from piles of paper, to simply washing the windows or cleaning the blinds and ceiling fan. Put one foot in front of the other and with a hopeful chug, become the little engine that could....and keep going until you say, " I thought I could, and I did!" ~best wishes from jackie
